What Is a Barcode?
A barcode is a machine-readable representation of data encoded as parallel lines of varying widths. Optical scanners read barcodes in milliseconds and are used in retail, logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing worldwide.
EAN-13
EAN-13 (European Article Number) is the global standard for retail product identification. The 13-digit code encodes a country prefix, company prefix, product number, and a check digit. It appears on virtually every product in supermarkets worldwide. Our generator validates and auto-calculates the check digit.
Code128
Code128 is a high-density, variable-length barcode that encodes the full 128-character ASCII set. It is widely used in shipping, warehousing, and inventory management.
UPC-A
UPC-A (Universal Product Code) is the dominant barcode standard in North America. It uses 12 digits and is compatible with EAN-13.
Other Formats
ITF-14 is used on outer cartons in the supply chain. Code39 is an older alphanumeric format common in automotive and military applications.
