What is a Percentile?

A percentile shows where your child ranks among 100 children of the same age and sex. P50 is the median: your child is at the 50th position. P75 means they are above 75 out of 100 children. Values between P3 and P97 are considered a healthy range.

How to Interpret

Below P3: Monitor closely
P3-P15: Low-normal
P15-P85: Normal
P85-P97: High-normal
Above P97: Consult doctor

FAQ

Which percentile range is healthy?
Any value between P3 and P97 is within the normal range. P25-P75 represents the middle half of children. Values between P3-P15 and P85-P97 can also be healthy but warrant regular monitoring by your pediatrician.
Which growth standard is used?
For ages 0-5 years, the WHO Child Growth Standards (2006) are used. These are based on healthy children raised under optimal conditions. For ages 5-19 years, the CDC Growth Reference (2000) is applied.
The percentile changed between visits - should I worry?
A single measurement is less important than the growth trend over time. A shift of two or more major percentile lines should be discussed with your doctor. This tool is for informational purposes only and cannot replace a clinical evaluation.

Child Growth Percentile Calculator

The NtoolBox Child Growth Percentile Calculator uses WHO and CDC growth standards to instantly show where your child's height and weight fall compared to peers of the same age and sex. It uses WHO Child Growth Standards (2006) for ages 0-5 years and CDC Growth Reference (2000) for ages 5-19 years.

How Are Percentiles Calculated?

Percentiles are calculated using the LMS method: z = [(X/M)^L - 1] / (L*S), where L, M, and S are age-specific parameters from the WHO/CDC tables. The z-score is then converted to a percentile using the standard normal distribution.
